[Fangames] What are you working on?

The one on the right looks amazing.

Hm. I disagree. The one on the right is the best one. Don’t listen to these other guys.

Kind of a teaser for what I’m working on. Currently, that sword is a static image, but I hope to have the palette and icon actually be dependent on the unit’s equipped item. It doesn’t conflict with the world map, status screen, or prep screen, as far as I’ve tested.

Also, it’s my first ASM hack. Woo.

Oh wow so it’ll show the currently equipped weapon? That is SWEET.

On the other hand, now you need new map sprites for each weapon. But hey, this is pretty cool! (Even though I’m pretty sure it’s been done before, I think that was for FE7, so good on ya! Keep it up!)

Actually, I’m loading the icon from the actual big icon image, so (hopefully, I’m not quite there yet) it could draw any weapon. Here I’ve changed it from an iron sword to a brave axe.

I think it looks better right there, although I’m sure long names would be cut off. Palette is loaded properly, although I’m still testing for bugs at this stage. After this comes the hard part of actually making it change.

Edit: Found a bug!

Level text is red. Not gamebreaking, but it’s certainly a side affect of messing with palettes.

And another, this time during preparations.

I had figured the palette part would be troublesome.

Another edit, fixed those two palette issues. Back to the important stuff.

Maybe you could find a way to expand the size of the box a little bit so that it’s not hanging off the side or potentially overlapping a long name?

Definitely. I’ve --wasted-- spent a bunch of time moving it around the box, but I haven’t gone looking for how it’s drawn.

So basically, replicating Cam’s 2015 FEE3 tech demo in FE8? Maybe ask him for his source so you can reuse a lot of it? @CT075

I don’t know how I missed that. Thanks, that’s pretty awesome. Found the notes in his dropbox.

Did FEXNA get released yet?

Yeti released it three years ago but hid it under codename FEXP. The elites don’t want us all to know. #StayWoke brothers.

I’m still working on T2 skeletons and I want to know

which shield works better?
Right now I’m using the right one but I’m not too sure about keeping it

I like the right, looks more interesting

Right one is cooler, but it looks too shiny and new for a skeleton to be using it. Make it use bone colours almost said “skin colours”, but… instead of sword colours?

I prefer the left, for the reasons Alusq mentioned. Skeletons should have shitty cobbled together weapons and armor.

Have to agree with Alusq that the right is too fancy. When I picture a skeleton warrior, I picture ratty armor, weapons, and shields, but that’s just general RPG conditioning. I would prefer the left, but the Soldier’s shield just recolored does feel like a bit of a cop out to use as is…

From a palette perspective, I think a uniform color is probably better too (barring one unique feature like the Paladin’s shield) since certain armor color choices could clash with the weapon color used in the center of the shield. Speaking of the Paladin’s shield, have you considered a shield other than a buckler for it? I don’t think it’d be worth it to straight use another shield 100%, but the general shape of the Paladin or Hero’s Kite Shields with different shading and shield ‘accents’ could be an option too? (Or, for that matter, you could keep the buckler shape and just replace the entire buckler shading/design (the elements inside the circle) with something new. I always like drawing inspiration from Diablo 2’s array of weapons and armor, so something like even the Small Shield could fit.)

…Speaking of Diablo, you said you were going to do magic casting poses for the Skeles too, right…? Totally should have magic glow type of effect on their hands like D2’s Skeleton Mage group enemies do…

[still likes the idea of the skeleton removing its skull and using it as an evil magic-casting orb]
